Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between an 1120 and 1120-S?

Form 1120 is for C-Corporations, which pay their own taxes at the corporate level. Form 1120-S is for S-Corporations, which are "pass-through" entities; they don't pay federal income tax but pass the profit/loss to shareholders via K-1s. We handle both and can advise on which structure is best for you.

When are business tax returns due?

Deadlines vary by entity. Partnerships (1065) and S-Corps (1120-S) are generally due March 15th. C-Corps (1120) are generally due April 15th. We track these dates for you and file extensions if necessary to ensure accuracy.

Do you handle Multi-State returns?

Yes. If your business has "nexus" (physical presence, employees, or significant sales) in multiple states, you likely need to file state income tax returns in each one. We manage the apportionment and filing for all 50 states.

What is a K-1 and why is it important?

A Schedule K-1 is the form a Partnership or S-Corp issues to its owners to report their share of the income. The owners need this K-1 to file their personal tax returns. We prepare and distribute these forms to your partners/shareholders.

Can you help with past-due business returns?

Yes. If you have fallen behind, we can help you catch up. We will prepare prior-year returns to bring your entity back into compliance and can often help abate penalties for late filing.
